What is BMI?

BMI is a formula to categorize adults into their weight levels. The formula was developed in 19th century by Belgian statistician Adolphe Quetelet. BMI stands for body mass index.

BMI is not a scientific method to measure weight level because it does not take into consideration variables like muscle ratio, fat ratio, gender, and shoulder length.

What are the BMI intervals?

Severe thinness

BMI less than 16. You are too much skinny. Some serious health issues may develop. You need to eat more and seen to a doctor.

Moderate thinness

BMI between 16 and 17. You are very skinny. Some health issues may develop. You need to eat more and see a doctor.

Mild thinness

BMI between 17 and 18.5. You are skinny. You need to eat more.

Normal range

BMI between 18.5 and 25. You have a normal weight. Keep your weight at this level.

Pre-obese

BMI between 25 and 30. You have a a little bit more weight and you should decrease your weight.

Obese class Ⅰ

BMI between 30 and 35. You are obese and you need to loose weight and see a doctor.

Obese class Ⅱ

BMI between 35 and 40. You are very obese and some serious health issues might develop. You need to eat less and see a doctor.

Obese class Ⅲ

BMI more than 40. You are too much obese and some serious health issues are going to develop. You need to eat less and see a doctor as soon as possible.
